i just got home from seeing
mccoy tyner and
savion glover perform at the grand. there is no use going to bed because i know that i won't be able to fall asleep.
i'm finding it difficult to express just how powerful it was. during the first half of the show i couldn't help but wish i had brought along my camera, smuggled it in my duffel bag of a purse. by the second half, i realized that it wouldn't have mattered if i had brought it. not a single frame, nor a carefully crafted album could have told the story of what i was seeing, hearing, and feeling. that my friends you must
experience for yourselves.
now imagine pairing savion's dance with three other very talented musicians. and yes, i am referring to savion as a musician as i saw tonight that he transformed the body into his instrument. it was obvious that he was feeding off of the energy that the mccoy tyner trio put out. mr. tyner is perhaps best known from his early beginnings as a member of the john coltrane quartet.
savion wore a smile across his face the entire night. i've never had the pleasure of seeing someone so lost in enjoyment of what they do. i like to think i am one of those lucky people who gets to do what they love for a living and i thank you all for allowing me to do just that.
i strongly encourage you to go see this show. i believe there are two performances in NY this coming weekend. this month, if you show me a ticket stub of this particular show or of any show for that matter, that has affected you as this one has me, i'll be more than happy to do a free photo session for you and your family. get inspired.
